Yo ho ho and a bottle of juice

I just had the awesomest conversation with Dylan. We were watching Lady and the Tramp - well, starting to watch it - and the Walt Disney castle came on the screen and Tinkerbell flew by, as she does.

Dylan: Who's that?
Me: Tinkerbell. She's in another movie that has pirates in it.
Dylan: (imitating a pirate) Aarrrrrrgh!

Yeah. My son is THAT awesome.

Anyway, Wildwood was a lot of fun. Dylan loved the ocean and LOVED the boardwalk. He wanted to ride all the big rollercoasters, and was very unhappy that he could not. We found two that he could ride with me. He rode both twice. And he LOVED them. He also rode lots of other rides, including bumper cars. I have to get the video of that up here.

I think if he could have stayed there forever, he would have. Me too, baby. Me too.

And for those of you who have been to Wildwood, you are familiar with the tram car. For those of you who aren't, It is an electric "train" that rides the length of the boardwalk. There is a recording they play when people get in the way that goes, "Watch the traaaaaammmmmm carrrrrrrrrr pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease." We rode that a bunch of times and Dylan loved it. So much so, that when we got home, he was out on the deck playing with a broom (it was a train to him) and saying, "Watch the traaaaiiiiiiiiiiiin cohhhhhh- seeeeeeeee" (watch the train coffee). OMG. Hysterical.

Oh, and PS. I passed my test. Woot for me.

Morris Hills 07866

Prompted by a phone convo with her, I found my copy of the script for Morris Hills, 07866, my foray into dramatic writing. Of course, someone already beat me to the punch with the whole zip code thing at the time, but it's still an interesting read... based not so loosely on my own experiences in High School. I considered posting them for everyone's amusement, but then my good sense returned to me and I thought better of it. Some things are better left in a box in the attic where they belong.

I'm sorry... can you repeat that? I didn't quite hear you...

It's really too bad that every time Dylan sees a video camera he yells, "Cheese!" at it, because I would love to get him on video doing some of his stuff.

Like last night, Darren was finishing up the re-model of the kitchen broom closet and I was cooking, so we put on On Demand Thomas The Tank. (I have completely caved with the TV thing. It started with Elmo's World in the morning, then Elmo's World DVD while cooking, and now this). He had never watched Thomas before, but he sat down in his Elmo chair and as soon as Thomas came onto the TV, he screamed at the top of his lungs,

TRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAIN!!!!!!!

By the way, the child is LOUD. He gets it from his father.

Anyway, he just sat there and yelled, "TRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAIN!!!!!!! *pause* TRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAIN!!!!!!! *pause* TRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAIN!!!!!!!" over and over and over.

Me: Dylan, are you ok??
Dylan: Yeah.
Me: Do you like the train?
Dylan: Yeah. *pause* TRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAIN!!!!!!!

Oh. My. God. Seriously.

Or I'd love to video all the other cute things he does.

-He sings "The Wheels On The Bus" - complete with hand movements.
-He sings "Happy Day To You" and he tells me who is coming to his "Happy Day" party. (Mommy, Dada, Uh-oh Mike, Eeshah and Papa, if you were wondering).
-He sings along with the radio and then claps and says "Yay!" when a song is over.
-He yells, "Green! Go!" when the stoplight changes.
-He bosses Darren and me around. ("Mommy sit here. Dada sit here. No, Mommy. Mommy sit HERE.")
-He loves playing outside. ("Outside? Walk? Slide?")
-If he likes something, he nods his said and says, "like." If he doesn't like something, he shakes his said and says, "like."

Of course, when he gets excited, we all go deaf...

Mike? Mike? Mike? Door?

Uncle Mike came to visit on Saturday. And by "visit" I mean "do our taxes." THANK YOU, UNCLE MIKE! But, of course, there was visiting and playing and going to Giggles to ride the train. For a while in the beginning, once Dylan woke up - he was just going down for a nap when Uncle Mike arrived - he stood there, holding Pooh and staring at Uncle Mike and not talking. Once we all went to Giggles, and afterward while Uncle Mike was on the floor playing (and Dylan was laughing hysterically), he really warmed up to him. As evidenced by Dylan running across the room when Uncle Mike was leaving, yelling, "Hug!" And then standing at the door for 5 minutes after he left yelling, "Bye bye Mike! Bye bye Mike! Mwah Mike! Bye bye!" (Right now, all he gets out is "Mike," except at one point when he started calling him "Uh-Oh Mike." Which, I guess, sounds a little like Uncle Mike).

All day Sunday, this (or a similar) conversation repeated itself over and over.

Dylan: Door (points at front door)
Me: Yes, door.
Dylan: Mike? Door?
Me: No, Uncle Mike is not at the door.
Dylan: Mike? Mike?
Me: No, Dylan, Uncle Mike is not at the door.
Dylan: Door.
Me: Yes, door.
Dylan: Mike door? Mike door?
Me: Uncle Mike is not coming over today. He'll be back, though.
Dylan: Yeah. *pause* Mike? Mike?
Me: *sigh* No, baby. No Uncle Mike today.
Dylan: All done, Mike. All done, door.
Me: You want to go to the train?
Dylan: Train? Dylan train?
Me: Yes, Dylan (foolishly thinking I've distracted him). You can ride the train.
Dylan: Mike? Mike? Mike train?

No, seriously. I could not make this up. Anyone who has ever had a conversation with a two-year-old can probably hear this in their head.

It's cute. It is. And I love this age. I do. But, oh my goodess! I understand the expression "talking to a wall" now! I'm slipping into parental insanity faster and faster the older Dylan gets because my parents are not looking nearly as nuts as they did when I was younger. I know it's getting bad because I've found myself refering to myself as "Mommy" and Darren as "Daddy" when Dylan is not around. And sometimes the urge to flatten his cowlick with the only wet substance around - namely saliva - is sometimes almost too strong to resist. I fight it - oh how I fight it - but someday it is going to win out. The minivan is only a few short baby steps from there.

No.. No... Notorious

I seem to post an awful lot more when I spend all day on my back on the couch.

Anyway, I went to the doctor today and he's happy with my incision. He put me on some antibiotics, but he thinks overall it looks good.

And it was certainly an eye-opening experience, going there with my mother and hearing her outlook on various things. I definitely got my dad's personality, as did my brother, that's all I can say. And my sister... 100% my mom, whether she wants to hear it or not.

Dylan's home...got to go.

I am Loyal and True

Yeah... that's what they told me right after the sorting hat yelled out "Hufflepuff!!!" I would have been ok with Ravenclaw - they're smart. I would have been ok with Slytherin - they're bad-ass. I would have been ok with Griffindor, obviously. But Hufflepuff? Seriously?

So anyway, my baby is awesome. Why is my baby awesome? Well, we say grace before dinner every night. We say, "Say Grace!" and put our hands together. Then we do the sign of the cross, say grace and do the sign of the cross again. Ever since Dylan's been able to sit up, we've been moving his hands in the sign of the cross. Recently, in the past few months, when we say "Say Grace!" he puts his hands together, and then he claps.

So why is my baby awesome? Last night I was feeding him before Darren and I ate because our dinner wasn't ready yet and he was hungry. So I open up his meat and he puts his hands together and looks at me. Oh, it was so cute. So Dylan and mommy said grace and then he was good to eat. Then when Mommy and Daddy said grace before they ate, Dylan not only put his hands together, but he put his hand to his forehead when we did the sign of the cross.

OMG so cute! And he was sooo proud of himself!

He is such a little man. He can do so much and he wants to do everything himself. He combs his hair, washes his hands, he can even feed himself with a spoon. (I still feed him because 1) it's quicker and 2) it's not as messy). His vocabulary is growing, both verbal and sign language. He can follow simple instructions like "bring this to Daddy," or "pick up Mommy's keys," or "open the door," or "go get your Hippo."

And he knows how to go down a step. When he comes to a step, or a ledge, I say, "How do you go down the step?" and he sits down and scoots forward and then stands up on the next level down. He's so smart and he listens so well. And at daycare they can't say enough good about him.

And he is so friendly and outgoing. He says hi to everyone when we're out. And most of them say hi back. He makes more friends in the grocery story than I thought was humanly possible.

Ok. I'm done glowing about my son. He is just so awesomely cool I can't help it. When I have a crappy day at work, he makes it all better.

Have You Seen My Ski Mobile?

We went to the Land of Make Believe today. I don't know who was more excited to be there; Mommy or Dylan.

Kids under 2 got in free, but you could only ride the carousel, the train and the hayride. Since Dylan was tall enough for some of the rides, and since one of us could ride with him for the ones he wasn't tall enough for, we decided to buy him admission.

Dylan's favorite ride was the Carousel. There was a lot of Eeeeeeeeee-ing:

I'm not sure why I look so thrilled, but Dylan is having a good time.

We also visited the petting zoo there. He loves animals and made a new friend:

The sheep actually Baaa'd at us.

All in all, it was a good day.

Dylan's First Day

Dylan started at his new school yesterday. Mommy was nervous. Dylan was not. I was all upset because I knew all the kids and all the Moms at the old daycare, and I didn't know anyone here, and Dylan didn't know the kids here.

Well, walking in, I ran into a girl I had been friends with in High School, whose son is a year older than Dylan. It was so nice to see a familiar face, even if I hadn't seen or talked to her since she graduated. We caught up and she said all kinds of nice things about the daycare, so I felt much better.

Today while walking in, I ran into the Drum Instructor from when I was in HS. He has a kid in the program too. Plus, today I met a mom from Dylan's class and her son, and I met the kid that Dylan's sheet said he played with all day yesterday. So I'm feeling a little more at home.

Dylan, of course, is fine. And I'm getting better. It helps to be able to watch him all day on the monitors. (Shh. Don't tell my boss).

Old Friends

There is nothing better than running into people you haven't seen in what feels like ages and being able to stand around and talk with them for hours to catch up.

I ran into two people last night who I haven't seen in months and they're both doing great. I was almost late for my class because I was talking to the one out in the parking lot beforehand (she took a class before mine) and just catching up. The other took my class so we stood around in the studio afterwards and chatted.

I think when the time comes to make my new years resolutions for next year, there will be something about staying in better touch with people, and hanging out with friends more often. I think I get caught up in all the things I have to do and forget about all the people I want to do things with.
